It seems to me that anyone that would forget their position and make a comment like Mr. Keddy did is getting a little smug in his employment. It was definitely the wrong comment, even if he has a point. Mr. Keddy must not realize that majority of farms that grow trees, vegetables, fruit, both in Ontario and BC have immigrant workers only. Why is the ultimate question? The answer to me is that immigrant workers do not expect as much as we do in pay, accomodations, etc. Farming is a hard business and in order for Canadian farmers to stay competitive immigrant workers are a godsend. Also our own people have the benefits of society. They have EI, welfare, compensation, etc. and have learned to use it. Why Employment Insurance will tell you that you do not have to take a job for less than you were originally earning so why would you???? It is a shame that alot of people abuse that system whether it be EI, welfare, mother's allowance, compensation and we as tax payers have to foot the bill. Also, alot of work in this province is seasonal and people need it. More employment growth in good paying positions would help Nova Scotia. A stricter policy and more investigation of compensation, welfare recipients etc. would also, be helpful or stricter guidelines and retraining or training for people. Society breeds this behavior so Mr. Keddy in your position do something to change it but do not berate people with unwarranted comments and abuse your position of power!
