Here is a very interesting employment opportunity sent through via e-mail this morning- posting it here

Job Opportunity:

Windhorse Farm- Managing Director
132 Sarty Road
New Germany, NS B0R 1E0
(902) 543-6955
http://www.windhorsefarm.org

About Windhorse

Windhorse Farm, now owned and operated by Jim and Margaret Drescher, builds on the rich 150-year history of the Wentzell family’s stewardship of this forest and farm in the LaHave River Watershed at Wentzell Lake in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Founded in 1840, this is the longest-standing demonstration of sustainable forestry in Canada.

Today Windhorse Farm is the home of three for-profit businesses demonstrating the economic practicality of ecologically protective stewardship practices. Windhorse Education Foundation, a charitable society, is responsible for education and training programs in earth stewardship. It is as an “earth stewardship training centre” that Windhorse Farm is best known. More than a thousand young people from at least ten countries have lived and learned here over the past 20 years --- as students, interns, apprentices and resident trainees. Many of these people have gone on to do environmentally and socially beneficial earth stewardship work in Canada and other countries.

Job Description

The Director will manage and coordinate the daily activities across a portfolio of businesses at WHF in Nova Scotia. The Director will be responsible for the timeliness and success of all operations, which currently include overseeing earth stewardship training programs and retreats as well as the organic market garden/orchard/nursery, wood products manufacturing business, and a small conference centre. As the primary onsite representative and manager at WHF, he/she will supervise a small staff of employees that contribute to the success of program activities at the farm. The Director will report to the WHF owners, Margaret and Jim Drescher, working with them on strategic planning and future direction of the business.

This is a unique opportunity to help realize the vision of WHF as a sustainability demonstration site and earth stewardship training centre working with a great staff.

To be considered for this position, please send cover letter and resume to jim@windhorsefarm.org.

We moved here from Chepstow, which is just over the border from England but have also lived in Rhoose (near the airport) and Porthcawl. You are right it is a lovely place.

Hey Ange- what part of South Wales did you come from? I was living near Carmarthen before I moved here which is more South West Wales I guess- Wales is a nice place I found...
Cabinman Comment by Cabinman on September 1, 2009 at 11:43am
We have concentrated our search in the Shelburne/Lockeport area, although we will not rule out any area if we found the right property. We have friends in Liverpool and Lockeport and Port Motoun.
Ange Phillips Comment by Ange Phillips on September 1, 2009 at 11:35am
What area are you looking to buy in? I know this is a South Shore forum but I'm not making any assumptions here. We have just been to a meeting for the Bay of Fundy area (Maitland/Selma/Noel area) they are beginning to try to regenerate their area. It is beautiful up along that shore.
