An open letter to Judy Streatch and JoAnn Grant

Open Letter to Judy Streatch and JoAnn Grant, and Chester St. Margarets.

June 24,2009

Judy and JoAnn,

It was an honor to run with you both in the past election.

While we were bested by Denise in our "first past the post system", there were still 5219 people in our district that voted for an option other than the NDP. That is 384 more than voted for her. Whats more, of the 15,500 registered voters, 10,054 people voted, meaning 5446 people chose not to vote in this past election, which means the non vote beat each of the candidates. All told, 10,665 people in our riding did not vote for Denise.

So, while Denise did win 31% of the total potential vote in our riding, 69% of the eligible voters do not necessarily feel she/her party speaks for them.

This is where we can help. We have the opportunity to continue to engage Denise over the next few years through open conversation. We can still influence policy and help Denise ensure all voices are heard. She was NDP in the election, but now she is the representative for Chester St. Margarets first and foremost, and she needs to act in the best interest of all of us, not just those who voted for her.

With your help and the help of the communities that voted for you in the past election, we can continue to ensure our community gets heard in the provincial legislature, and in particular, Judy, Denise can benefit from your experience in Government. Its time to put our colored logos aside and work together for the good of our local community. That is my challenge for you.

Thank you so much for your past commitment to our community, and I look forward to serving with you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Ryan Cameron

Yes, good thought indeed.
This is non-partisan politics.
Will this really happen thou? One can only hope.

Good thoughts Ryan- people who run for their districts must want what is best for their communities (guess that's why they become candidates in the first place) so IMHO post election is the time that they can ensure people in the community are heard- guess this is where the hard work really begins for ALL.

I am sure Denise's head must be spinning at the moment with these very busy weeks post election just getting to grips with not only all the admin, policy etc but the enormous responsibility of the task in hand !!!
