Dear Ministers
Please find attached photos of Graves Island Park depicting the shoreline on the west side of Graves Island taken on Dec 2/09 and Dec31/09.Note the errosion that has taken place adjacent to the only walking path on this park.
Due to park forestry work and park renovations in the past 2/3 years, the walking path on the east side of the island has been eliminated. The only path to walk on is this west side trail from the causeway to the south end and it is in serious state of repair. These photos show what has happened between Dec 2/0 and Dec 31/09,this errosion has been occuring gradually for many years but the recent activity will soon eliminate this trail unless immediate action is taken to protect the shore. Many people use this island park year round for recreation and healthy exercise and during the hunting season it is a safe area to walk.
Oh yes there is a paved road on the centre of the island for vehicles and campers which is fine for summer tourist but that is only one group of the people using the park.
I urge your departments to find the resources to immediately provide the protection required to protect this beautiful park land on the south shore.I am prepared to meet with staff and other citizens to form a committee to provide community input that was promised several years ago when the park was being redesigned.
I have more photos if required.
Thanking you in advance for you consideration and attention to this matter.
Sincerely
Jim Barkhouse
